Brandan Dietrich

Up until the age of 13, Brandan Dietrich grew up in a household whose religious beliefs were that homosexuality was wrong. His parents were unwilling to accept that Brandan was gay, which led to his abandonment and being brought into the care of Family & Children’s Services of the Waterloo Region.

“Parents that you’d expect to have always in your life are suddenly gone,” Brandan said. “It’s been years of counselling, working through abandonment struggles, trust issues and how to receive love. But over the past 12 years, I’ve found strength and support from the people connected to Family & Children’s Service of the Waterloo Region, and that has helped keep me alive.”
