On this International Women’s Day 2018, history has been made.

The Bank of Canada has unveiled the new $10 note, featuring African-Canadian civil rights activist Viola Desmond.

For those who may not know, Viola Desmond is known refusing to give up her seat in a whites-only section of a movie theatre in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1946.

Viola Desmond is the first black person and Non Royal featured on a Canadian money note.
