Rolling Stone UK is currently facing a lot of backlash after dubbing Harry Styles as the ‘new King of Pop.’  As expected, this did not sit well with fans of the late Michael Jackson, nor his family.  Michael, who passed away in 2009, was famously known throughout his career as the ‘King of Pop.’

Michael Jackson’s nephew, Taj Jackson called out Rolling Stone UK and tweeted, “There is no new King of Pop.  You don’t own the title @RollingStone, and you didn’t earn it, my uncle did. Decades of dedication and sacrifice.  The title has been retired.  No disrespect to @Harry_Styles, he’s mega talented.  Give him his own unique title.”

Taj then clarified that he ‘wasn’t call out Harry with his tweet,’ “Notice how they never crown someone ‘The new boss’ or ‘the new king.  This isn’t about Harry styles. It’s about rolling stone constantly disrespecting Michael Jackson and we’re tired.”

With Rolling Stone UK, Harry reflected on his own musical career, “In music, there’s such an immediate response to what you do. You finish a song and people clap.  When you’re filming and they say ‘cut,’ there’s maybe part of you that expects everyone to start clapping, [but] they don’t. Everyone, obviously, goes back to doing their jobs, and you’re like, ‘Oh, s–t, was it that bad?’”

And according to ET Canada, “Though dubbed Rolling Stone‘s first global cover star, Styles was only given the “King of Pop” title on the U.K. cover of the music magazine but not on the U.S. cover. Incidentally, the Michael Jackson estate owns the trademark to “The King of Pop.”

Here’s what the internet is saying.
